Teenagers Arrested Over Omagh Kidnapping

Two teenagers have been arrested over the Omagh kidnapping which occurred at the beginning of October.

A 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man have been arrested, according to the PSNI.

The case has already seen three men aged 22, 39 and 55 charged and a 38-year-old woman released unconditionally.

The 55-year-old was arrested in Scotland and brought to Northern Ireland.

A court has heard from how a man was brought to Northern Ireland from the Republic on 1 October under the pretense of a potential business opportunity.

The man was then handed over to a gang until a €100,000 (£80,000) ransom was paid by his father. The initial ransom was €400,000 (£320,000).

The condition was that the money would be left in a hedge, after which the victim was released in Drogheda, County Louth.

The court was told the money was used to then repay a debt to a gang held by 55-year-old Mr Vevers from Scotland.

The ongoing investigation is spanning Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic.

A bail application by Mr Vevers was objected to by the prosecution. The objection was upheld due to fears over the perversion of the course of justice and due to the ongoing nature of the case.

The four men and woman were originally arrested in connection with the incident on October 6.
