Broken Kneecaps Suspected Following Baseball Bat Attack

A man is suspected of having broken knee-caps following an attack with baseball bats.

Detectives are investigating the aggravated burglary, which took place in Antrim town yesterday evening at 22:00.

Police received a report that two males armed with baseball bats had entered a property at Islay Street.

They assaulted a 38-year-old and caused numerous injuries, including two suspected broken kneecaps and a possible broken jaw.

The two men then stole a number of items including the victim's mobile phone.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment.

Detectives investigating this incident are appealing for anyone with information to contact Antrim CID offices on 0845 600 8000.

Taxi Driver Finds Winning Lotto Ticket

A taxi driver is appealing to the owner of a lost winning lottery ticket after it was revealed to be worth a substantial amount.

The driver has not yet revealed the winning amount as he wants to be able to make sure whoever comes forward is the genuine owner.

Marty Quinn, of Strabane, County Tyrone, found the ticket when he was cleaning out his car on Sunday morning.

Mr Quinn said the passenger may have come from the Douglas Bridge or Sion Mills area of the county.

The Irish lottery ticket was bought in a local bookmakers.

Pipe Bomb Thrown At Police Vehicle

A pipe bomb has been thrown at a police vehicle in Poleglass.

Officers were attending a call-out in the west Belfast area around 20:00 yesterday evening in Glenwood View.

More than 20 homes were evacuated while Army bomb experts made the device safe. It did not explode.

Derry City Fan Banned Over 'Flash Grenade'

A Derry City fan has been banned from football matches in Northern Ireland for five years following the use of a flash-type grenade.

William Thomas Joseph Diver, 36, of Inveroe Gardens, Londonderry, convicted of possessing fireworks at the Oval Stadium in Belfast on 12 May.

He was also given a suspended five month jail term.

The incident happened during the Setanta Cup final between Derry City and Crusaders.

Belfast Magistrates Court heard that he was searched and arrested at the ground before the device could be let off.

Suspected Scammers Arrested In Belfast City Centre
