Ulster Bank Employee Charged With Fraud

A former official with Ulster Bank has been charged with fraud.

53-year-old Colin Lewis Canning from Limavady has appeared at Londonderry Magistrates Court following charges of stealing £100,000 from a client.

It is claimed that Mr Canning transferred the money from the client’s account over a period which stretched from January 2006 to February 2009.

The accused has been released on bail until November 23.

The offences are alleged to have been committed when working in a senior position in the Ulster Bank's Strand Road Branch.

Knife Held To Man's Throat In L'Derry

A 20-year-old man has reported having a knife held to his throat in L’Derry.

The incident happened in Galliagh on 28 October but has only just been reported to police.

The victim was approached by five men as he walked along Heather Road in Galliagh.

It was then that one of the men held a knife to his throat and threatened him. The man was not injured in the attack.

The man who held the knife as being in his early 20's, of stocky build and wearing black shoes, tight blue jeans and a black jacket.

Man Dies In Bicycle Car Collision

A man died yesterday afternoon when his bicycle collided with a car in Portadown.

The incident occurred on the Mahon Road. The woman driving the car was treated for shock.

The section of the road at junctions with the Armagh Road and the Artabrackagh Road remains closed.

Polish Man Receives Discrimination Settlement

A Polish man has told the Newry Times how he received a £17,500 settlement from employers following claims of racial abuse.

Zbigniew Teliga (57) made the claim against electrical shop Murphy’s DAC TV following his dismissal in August 2011 after injuring his hand at work.

Mr Teliga claimed to have been working for the company for five years, but his employers claim he was just a casual worker who came in when required and was paid accordingly.

But Mr Teliga said the firm had provided him with a letter in 2008 stating that he had then been employed for two years and was registered under the Accession State Worker Registration Scheme.

Serious Road Crash In L'Derry
A serious road crash has occurred on the Chapel Road in L'Derry. A car and a motorbike where involved in the incident, according to the police. One man, believed to be a teenager, has been taken to hospital where his injuries are believed to be serious. The road has been closed at its junctions with Newlyn Terrace and Spencer Road.

Man Dies In Workplace Accident In Co Armagh
A man has died in a workplace accident in Co Armagh. It is believed the man was crushed by a road roller while a new road surface was being laid on the Bog Road, Forkhill, on Wednesday, 31 May. Police and the Health and Safety Executive have launched an investigation.

Man Dies In Tyrone Farm Accident
The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) has launched an investigation after a man died in a farm accident in Co Tyrone. Emergency services were called to the farm in the Coolaghy Road area of Ardstraw on Sunday, 02 September. His death is not being treated as suspicious and a post-mortem is to be carried out.
