Man Remanded In Custody In Connection With David Black Murder

A man has been remanded in custody charged in relation with the murder of prison officer David Black.

Damien Joseph McLaughlin, from Kilmascally Road, Co Tyrone, appeared at Lisburn Magistrates Court yesterday.

He is accused of obtaining the car in the Republic of Ireland before it was allegedly used by Mr Black's killers .

Mr Black was shot as he drove to work on the M1 motorway on 1st November.

The car is believed to be obtained by McLaughlin in County Leitrim, and brought to Northern Ireland the day before Mr Black was murdered.

Man Critical Following Coleraine Crash
A man in his 80s is in critical condition following a crash between a car and a digger in County L'Derry. The collision happened on the Quilly Road between Articlave and Coleraine at around 10pm on Monday, 16 September. A Citroen C3 car and a Manitou digger were involved. The road was closed for some time but has since reopened.

Duffy Released Over Prison Officer Murder
Colin Duffy has been released following his arrest for the murder of prison officer David Black. Prominent republican Duffy, 44, and another 31-year-old man were detained in Lurgan on Friday. The two men have now been released unconditionally, but a 29-year old man is still being questioned following his arrest in the Irish Republic on Friday.

NI Defeated By Germany In Belfast
Northern Ireland's hopes of qualifying for Euro 2020 suffered a major setback on Monday evening as they were defeated 2-0 by Germany. The tense qualifier at Windsor Park brought plenty of chances for Michael O'Neill's side in the first half, with Conor Washington almost making it past Germany's keeper Manuel Neuer on two occasions.

NIFRS Opens £4.8m Training Facility
The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service has today opened a £4.8 million tactical firefighting training facility in County Tyrone. The state-of-the-art training base, located at Desertcreat outside Cookstown, enables firefighters to train in "real fire" situations and is the first facility of its kind in Northern Ireland.

DoH Reveal Plan To Reduce Suicide Rates
A plan to reduce suicide rates in Northern Ireland by 10% over the next five years has been unveiled by the Department of Health. The 'Project Life 2' strategy aims to deliver suicide prevention services and support, with a particular focus on deprived areas where rates are over 3.5 times higher.
