PSNI Renews Garda Murder Appeal

The PSNI has renewed an appeal for information regarding the murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe two weeks ago.

PSNI detectives who are assisting colleagues in An Garda Siochana with the murder investigation have made a specific appeal about the movements of a car believed to have been used by the killers.

Detective Garda Donohoe was shot by a gang during a robbery at Lordship Credit Unit, Dundalk, Co Louth on the evening of Friday 25 January at approximately 21.30.

Police believe the gang travelled in a dark coloured Volkswagen Passat car from Dundalk across the border to Fews Forest outside Newtownhamilton in Co Armagh, where it was abandoned and set on fire.

The PSNI is still carrying out "rigorous and extensive" forensic examination of the vehicle.

PSNI officers mounted checkpoints at various locations near Newtownhamilton on the evening of Friday 8 February.

Police are interested in speaking to anyone:

- who saw a dark coloured Volkswagen Passat in the area on on the evening of 25 January after 21.30

- who saw any other vehicles in the area around this time.

- Who observed fire, smoke or burning vehicles in the area.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact detectives in PSNI on 0845 600 8000 or detectives in An Garda Siochana on 042 9388470.

Alternatively, the independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111 or the Garda Confidential Number 1800 666 111.
