Man Caught Drunk With Bare-Footed Son
A man has been given probation after being stopped by PSNI officers while wandering the streets drunk with his bare-footed, four-year-old son, the BBC has reported.
The 28-year-old man, who cannot be identified, will serve six months’ probation after being arrested in west Belfast.
He was stopped by officers in the Suffolk Road area after a taxi driver saw the two and informed the PSNI last August.
The prosecution said the man was abusive to officers. The man admitted disorderly behaviour and being drunk in charge of a child in public to Belfast Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard how his son was upset and was not wearing any shoes.
Arrangements were then made for the boy to be taken to a relative. At this point, the man then became abusive and police arrested him.
The defence claimed the man had been drinking as a result of being the victim of a mistaken identity in a previous incident.
Reporting of the defendant's name has been forbidden by the courts in order to ensure his child cannot be identified.
