Operation Dulcet: PSNI Release More Images

Detectives working as part of Operation Dulcet have released a further 15 images of people they want to speak to with regard to obstructive protesting and illegal processions.

Operation Dulcet was set up in the wake of the union flag protests, which began on 3 December last year when councillors at Belfast City Council voted in favour of restricting the number of days the union flag can be flown above city hall.

Most of the protests have been peaceful and passed off without incident, but many have resulted in violent clashes with police.

To date, a total of 231 people have been arrested as part of the investigation. A total of 177 people have been charged and 69 people have been reported to the Public Prosecution Service.

The latest photos released by the PSNI relate to incidents which occurred in the east Belfast and Glengormley areas.

Detective Superintendent Sean Wright said the investigation has received strong support from the public.

He explained: "We have released a number of images so far and we have had a very positive response from members of the public to date. There are people out there who will know the identity of these 15 people who I am looking to speak to. I am confident that those people will come forward with that information.

"It is vital that we all send out a message to those involved in public disorder that such behaviour will not be tolerated. Those who break the law must face consequences for their actions. They will be dealt with appropriately and proportionately through the criminal justice system."

The senior detective also appealed directly to those featured in the images to contact his team.

He added: "I would ask anyone who believes one of the images is of them to contact us immediately in order to help us with our enquiries."

Operation Dulcet is investigating a range of offences including serious rioting, hijacking of vehicles, attacks on politicians' offices, threats made against politicians, obstructive sitting, un-notified processions and social media based offences.

Anyone who may be able to identify any of the individuals is urged to contact detectives at the Major Incident Room on 028 90 901775 from 09:00 to 22:00 daily.

Or if anyone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The 15 images are available to view on the PSNI website.
