Woman Sexually Assaulted IN Magherafelt

The PSNI is investigating a report of serious sexual assault against a woman in her 20s in the Magherafelt area.

The incident occurred during the early hours of Saturday 1 June, when the woman was sexually assaulted in the area.

Police are asking anyone who may have been in the Leckagh Drive and Meadowbank Road area of Magherafelt between midnight on Friday 31 May and 02:30 on Saturday 1 June to contact them immediately.

Detectives at the Rape Crime Unit in Ballymoney can be contacted on 028 27649614.

Elderly Couple Threatened In Burglary

An elderly couple in Newtownabbey have been left shaken after an attempted burglary during which they were physically threatened with a crowbar.

At around 22:00 on 31 May a man armed with a crowbar forced his way into the house and threatened the pair.

The male occupant resisted the intruder and chased him from the house empty handed.

The intruder was dressed in black clothing and hood and is believed to have left the house and driven away in a red Rover car in the direction of Templepatrick.

Police Appeal Over Bangor Kidnapping

Police are appealing for information following a kidnapping in Bangor last Thursday.

At about 10:00, a 27-year-old man was walking in the Bryansburn Road area when a white high top Transit van pulled up beside him.

Two men wearing balaclavas pulled the man into the van.

The victim was let out of the vehicle on the Crawfordsburn Road in Newtownards a while later. He was not injured.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them.

Man And Woman Arrested Following Attack

A man and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and assault on police.

Police were called to the Donard Park area of Newcastle, County Down, just before 19:30 on Saturday evening, following reports of a parked car having had its windows smashed.

A 38-year-old man was held on suspicion of criminal damage and drugs offences.

A 36-year-old woman was detained on suspicion of disorderly behaviour and assault on police.

Follow up searches at a home in Donacloney revealed a deactivated gun, drugs paraphernalia and fireworks.

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Man Arrested Over Murder Of George Gilmore
A 39-year-old man has been arrested by police investigating the murder of George Gilmore. Mr Gilmore, aged 44, was shot in the neck in Carrickfergus on Monday, 13 March. He died from his injuries in hospital the following day, 14 March. The suspect was detained in Co Antrim on Wednesday, 12 April, and is being questioned at Musgrave police station.

Man questioned about 1988 murder
A man has been arrested in connection with police inquiries into a murder in 1988. The body of Lily Smyth, 66, was found in her flat at Moveen House in Dunmurry on October 9, 1988. The pensioner had been strangled. A police spokesperson said that a 43-year-old man had been arrested and is being questioned at Antrim Police Station.

Man Dies In Co L'Derry House Fire
A man aged in his 50s has died in a house fire in Magherafelt, Co L'Derry An investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire at a house on Highfield Road, however police said that they don't believe the fire was suspicious. The man's identity has not yet been released.

Police Cancel Appeal For Missing Omagh Man
Police have said they believe missing Omagh man, Shane Sharkey, has been found in the Republic of Ireland. A police appeal for help in finding the 35-year-old has been cancelled, with police saying they now believe they know where he is. No further details have been released but police thanked the public for their help.
