'Viable Device' Found In Newtownabbey

A 'viable device' has been found in Newtownabbey in the midst of a security alert.

The device was discovered in the Cherrylands/Cloughfern area shortly after 06:00 this morning.

The area was cordoned off as army bomb experts examined the device and carried out a controlled explosion.

Some residents were forced to evacuate their homes during the operation and were put up in the Valley Leisure Centre.

The alert is now over and residents have been allowed to return to their home.

All roads have reopened.

Residents have been evacuated from their homes following a security alert in Coleraine. A suspicious device was discovered in the Glebe Avenue area on Friday. Police are currently at the scene and the road has been closed.

Pipe Bomb Type Device Found In West Belfast
A pipe bomb type device has been discovered in west Belfast. The "crude but viable" device was found during a security alert in the Rodney Drive area on Tuesday morning. Police and army bomb disposal experts attended the scene and residents had to be evacuated from their homes. The device was made safe and the alert has now ended.

Residents return home following bomb alert
Residents in the Waterside area of Londonderry have returned to their homes following a bomb alert on Monday morning. A suspicious device was found in the Gelvin Gardens area at about 6am. It is not yet clear whether the device contained any explosive, however, residents were immediately moved from their homes to a nearby school.

Viable Pipe Bomb Found In West Belfast
A viable pipe bomb has been discovered during a security alert in west Belfast. The device was found in the Andersonstown area on Saturday night, 15 July. A number of residents had to be evacuated from their homes, however they have since returned. The device was made safe and has been retaken for further examination.
