Man Arrested Over 1977 IRA Shooting

Police detectives investigating the 1977 IRA murder of two British soldiers in west Belfast have arrested a man in the city.

The 54-year-old suspect was arrested in west Belfast in connection with the murders of Pte Michael Harrison, 19, and Pte Richard Turnbull, 18, who were serving with the Light Infantry.

They were killed during an IRA gun attack in Belfast on 29 June 1977 when Army vehicles came under fire in North Howard Street.

The suspect is now thought to have been detained and is answering questions at Antrim police station.

Pte Harrison was from Dinnington in South Yorkshire while Pte Turnbull was from North Yorkshire.

A regimental padre and an officer were both injured in the attack.

Six people were charged in the wake of the shooting, with one sentenced to life for murder.

Two Arrested In Connection With West Belfast Stabbing
