Disruption Expected During Halloween Parade
Derry City Council has advised that motorists may experience disruption this Thursday as a result of the Halloween Carnival parade through the city.
On Strand Road, a lane in front of the Council offices will close from 18:00 and reopen at 20:45.
On the Foyle Embankment, on the city bound approach to Water Street, a lane will be closed from 18:50 until 20:30.
For varying lengths of time during the evening events (from 19:00-20:30) the following roads will be closed to traffic and alternative diversions will be in place at Strand Road, Harbour Square, Queens Quay, Whittaker Street and Foyle Embankment (between Water St and City Hotel).
St Columb’s Road will be closed to traffic from 15:00, except to drivers who have been issued with passes.
The Banks of the Foyle Halloween Carnival Parade will commence at 19:00. The parade will travel along the Strand Road, turn left towards the City Hotel, around Harbour Square Roundabout and return to the Council car park along Queen’s Quay at approximately 19:45.
It will be possible for spectators to view the parade from anywhere along its route according to Derry City Council.
A viewing area for people with disabilities will also be located on the Queen’s Quay opposite the City Hotel.
The parade will be followed by a fireworks display on the River Foyle at 20:00.
The number of spectators on the Peace Bridge will be limited and it may be likely to close the Bridge to pedestrians and cyclists for a short period on Thursday evening, the Council said.
The DRD Car Parks at Queens Quay and Foyle Street will be closed all day on Thursday 31 October.
