Farmer Fined Over Polluting Offence

A Co. Tyrone farmer has been fined £1,000 plus court costs of £31 at Enniskillen Magistrates' Court.

Mr Wilfred Bothwell, of Tullyweel, Fivemiletown, was fined for making a polluting discharge to a waterway.

The charges relate to a visit by a Water Quality Inspector on 17 January 2013 to a tributary of the Ramult Burn near the Creeve Road at Tullyweel. A large amount of sewage fungus was observed in the waterway.

Further investigation revealed that a discharge of silage effluent was being made from the farm premises of Mr Bothwell to the waterway via a drainage pipe. Some 2km of waterway was adversely affected by this polluting discharge.

Coleraine DJ Found Guilty Of Fraud

A DJ from Coleraine, County Antrim, has been found guilty of nine offences for failing to provide a service to customers for money he received.

Michael Stockman, trading as North West Discos, was found guilty on Friday 6 December 2013 at Coleraine Magistrates' Court.

The charges followed an investigation into the trading practices of Michael Stockman, following receipt of six consumer complaints.

Each of the customers paid Mr Stockman money to provide a DJ service at their weddings, parties or charity events.

But Mr Stockman failed to provide a service to any of these consumers or to refund any of the money he received.

His excuse for cancelling on four different occasions between the start of August 2012 and the end of September 2012 was that his father had died the previous day/morning.

But Mr Stockman continued to make bookings and take payments throughout this period.
