NI Contributes To UK Extreme Weather Review

Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy has announced that his department will be contributing to the national review of the resilience of UK transport networks to extreme weather.

The review was announced by Prime Minister David Cameron following the extreme weather conditions experienced in many parts of the UK earlier this year.

Minister Kennedy said he thought the outcome of the review "could have very significant benefits for the transport network in Northern Ireland.

"I am confident that by sharing the experiences and knowledge my department has gained in Northern Ireland we can make a positive contribution to the success of this work," he said.

"I will, of course, also be seeking to ensure that Northern Ireland is factored into, and benefits appropriately from, the UK Government response to the report, in due course."

The Secretary of State for Transport, Patrick McLoughlin, will chair the committee, which will seek to develop recommendations to coordinate long-term plans on flood recovery and flood resilience during periods of extreme weather.

The review committee is expected to call for evidence from a number of stakeholders in the coming weeks and report its finding later this year.
