Events Mark Historic Visit By General Eisenhower

A number of events have been held to mark the 70th anniversary of the visit to Co Fermanagh by US General Dwight Eisenhower.

General Eisenhower led the D-Day landings during World War 2.

the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe during WW2, went to Enniskillen on 18 May 1944, where he inspected 2,000 soldiers preparing for the invasion of Normandy.

Police Appeal Over Home Invasion Robbery

Police have appealed for information after a couple was tied up and robbed in their home by a masked gang.

The incident happened at about 22:30 on Sunday evening. Police say that three men forced their way into the couples home on the Upper Newtownards Road. The couple were restrained and the men made off with a large quantity of jewellery.

The man and woman needed hospital treatment following the robbery.

Police have appeal for any information or for any one who was in the area at the time to contact them.

Michael Pearson Described As "Stable"

According to reports Michael Pearson's condition "has improved".

The 37-year-old Ballygowan motorcycle racer was seriously injured when he crashed at the Horice road races in the Czech Republic.

His condition had been reported as critical, but it has since said to have improved and is now described as "stable".

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Man Arrested Over Murder Of George Gilmore
A 39-year-old man has been arrested by police investigating the murder of George Gilmore. Mr Gilmore, aged 44, was shot in the neck in Carrickfergus on Monday, 13 March. He died from his injuries in hospital the following day, 14 March. The suspect was detained in Co Antrim on Wednesday, 12 April, and is being questioned at Musgrave police station.

Officer Disciplined For Failing To Properly Investigate Assault On Boy
A police officer has been disciplined after failing to properly investigate an allegation that a man annoyed by children playing football near his car, attacked a 12-year-old boy by kicking him on the hand.

Man's Body Recovered From Bangor Marina
Police have launched an investigation after the body of a man was recovered from Bangor Marina on Wednesday, 13 May. Police received a report that a man had entered the water shortly after 10.15am. Emergency services and police attended the scene and the body was recovered from the water. Police are not treating the death as suspicious.
