Natural energy has power to provide says youngsters

Young people from across Belfast got to grips with the power of natural energy sources at the launch of NIE's Action Renewables campaign this week.

In line with recommendations from the Government's proposed energy strategy, Action Renewables aims to educate businesses and energy users about renewable energy sources such as tidal stream, solar, wind and biomass.

Commenting on the campaign, Andy McCrea, Director of Action Renewables said: "This is the start of an ongoing campaign to raise awareness about renewable energy sources and to demonstrate how these sources can be best utilised. We need to reduce the harmful emissions that are causing our climate to change and also be proactive in reducing our reliance on fossil fuels.

"The climate in Northern Ireland is a perfect natural powerhouse with some of the most plentiful resources in Europe and we all need to start learning about and embracing renewable energy - as the slogan says, 'You hold the Power."

Over 100 outdoor posters have appeared across Northern Ireland to raise awareness of Action Renewables along with information leaflets arriving over the coming months from NIE.
