Man to appear in court over Stewart murder

A 23-year-old man is to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court tomorrow charged with the murder of Jonathan Stewart last Christmas.

Mr Stewart was gunned down during a party at a house on the lower Shankill area of the city.

His murder took place during the height of an internal power struggle within the Ulster Defence Association (UDA), which has a strong power base in the area.

The victim was a relative of a well known loyalist in the area but his family claimed he was not involved in any paramilitary organisation.
