McIlroy Continues Return To Form

Rory McIlroy has won his fourth major title at the US PGA Championship at Valhalla.

The Holywood, County Down world number one has now won his last two tournaments, following his first Open Championship last month.

This latest win at Valhalla is the McIlroy's second US PGA Championship, following victory at Kiawah Island in 2012.

First Minister and deputy First Minister Peter Robinson and Martin McGuinness said: "Rory has played stunning golf to claim his fourth Major title. He is a sporting sensation and joins an impressive list of champions to win back-to-back Majors.

"We are incredibly proud to watch as he writes his story of golfing greatness and we look forward to the next chapter as these victories propel him towards being the golfer of his generation."

Tourism Minister Arlene Foster said: "By winning the US PGA, his second Major in just three weeks, Rory has taken another step towards greatness and has once again shown the world what is great about Northern Ireland golf.

"I'm sure everyone who stayed up into the wee small hours to watch the final stages of the championship was on the edge of their seat as Rory battled back from a three-shot deficit to win the fourth Major of his career.

"Not only does this victory cement Rory's position as World Number One, it also underlines Northern Ireland's status as the home of Major Champions. It should make us very proud that six of the last 19 Major Championships have been won by golfers from Northern Ireland.

"This will give golfers of all abilities even more reason to travel to Northern Ireland to find out for themselves what makes our golf courses the home of Major champions."
