NIE warn of bogus callers

Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) has issued a warning to customers in the Larne area after bogus callers claimed to be contractors working for NIE.

The callers gained access to a building site and a number of electrical items were stolen as a result of the crank call.

Ken McCracken, NIE Customer Relations Manager for the area said: “Contractors working on behalf of NIE all carry identification and letters of authorisation to work on behalf of the company.

“I would urge all our customers to be extra vigilant and if you are in any doubt about a caller’s identity, please ask the person to wait while you check with NIE Customer Service who will quickly verify if they have representatives working in your area.”

Anyone who may have suspicions are asked to contact NIE on 08457 643 643.
