Limavady Man Arrested Over Shipping Container Death

A man has been arrested by police in Northern Ireland in connection with the death of a man found inside a shipping container in Essex.

The 34-year-old man, from Limavady, was arrested in Banbridge today on suspicion of manslaughter and facilitating illegal entry.

He is currently in police custody in Northern Ireland, however he is to return to England to be questioned by Essex Police.

Acting Detective Chief Inspector Martin Pasmore, of Essex Police, said: "This is a fast-moving investigation which has already involved a number of police forces and law enforcement agencies from across the United Kingdom and Europe.

"I am very grateful to officers from the PSNI for their assistance this morning. We will continue to work closely with all of our policing colleagues as we pursue our investigation to bring those responsible for this crime to justice."

Meet Singh Kapoor, 40, was found dead inside a container on Saturday.

A post mortem examination was unable to discover how he died.

Mr Kapoor was one of 35 Afghan Sikhs from Kabul who were found sealed in an airtight container on a UK-bound ferry.

The container was placed on a P&O ferry which travelled from Zeebrugge.
