Revamped MOT centre opens in Omagh
The opening of a new state of the art MOT centre in Omagh this week means the DOE’s Driver and Vehicle Testing Agency’s (DVTA) is now at the forefront of vehicle testing in Europe.
The centre, which has been completely re-equipped with the latest computerised vehicle testing technology, is expected to improve services to customers and conditions for staff while, at the same time, enabling the centre to cope with a greater number of vehicle testings.
Commenting on the new centre the DVTA’s Director of Human Resourses Marianne Fleming said: “Many customers will welcome the fact that they will no longer have to drive their cars over pits, as these have now been replaced by hoists operated by the examiners. New emissions tests on diesel vehicles and on catalytic converters will also be introduced to help improve air quality.
“The new equipment will ensure that DOE can continue to deliver statutory testing responsibilities and fully meet EU testing obligations. Our staff is being given extensive training to ensure that they are fully competent in using the equipment. Thirteen of Northern Ireland’s fifteen MOT centres now have the new equipment fully installed. It is expected that all 15 MOT centres throughout Northern Ireland will be completed by September this year.”
The new equipment will enable test centres to deal with an additional volume of testing as the growth of vehicles requiring an MOT is expected to continue as well as adding significantly to the quality and consistency of the testing process.

Minister calls for introduction of MOT disc
Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Angela Smith has announced proposals for the introduction of an MOT disc for motorists in Northern Ireland. It is hoped that the MOT disc, like the tax disc, will act as a reminder to motorists when their MOT test is due.

MOT waiting times back on target
The Driver & Vehicle Testing Agency (DVTA) today revealed that waiting times for MOT tests have come down significantly since the summer and are now back on track. Chief Executive Stanley Duncan said he was pleased with the progress made and that it had been a tough period for customers and staff who have had to cope with a massive surge in demand.

Shankill Juniors FC Named 'Anchor Club' For New Woodvale Park
Shankill Juniors FC has been announced as the official "anchor club" for the new 3G pitch currently in development at Woodvale Park. Work is underway on the £200,000 project at Woodvale Park, which will see an ageing multi-use games area in the park transformed into a new nine-a-side football pitch with LED floodlights.
