Improvement Scheme Announced For Newtownards

A footway improvement scheme is to be carried out on the Old Shore Road in Newtownards, on 8th September.

The £120,000 footway scheme will include minor carriageway realignment and localised widening identified under the Department's Local Transport and Safety Measures programme.

Transport Minister Danny Kennedy: "This scheme will improve accessibility and safety of pedestrians with the construction of 345 metres of footway along the Canal side of this busy road in Newtownards between The Oaks and The Paddock Developments."

DRD aims to keep any inconvenience caused by these works to an absolute minimum. However, delays should be expected and drivers are asked to be patient and allow additional time when travelling this route during the works.

To help ensure the safety of road users and contractors it will be necessary to operate temporary traffic control during the course of the improvements.
