Arrest Over House Fire Death
Police have arrested a woman on suspicion of manslaughter after an elderly man died in a house fire in Carryduff, County Down.
Police said on Thursday that they are now treating the fire as suspected arson, despite initial investigations proclaiming it to be not suspicious.
The 57-year-old woman was detained at a police station in north Down on Wednesday. She is currently in custody and is assisting police with their enquiries.
91-year-old Samuel Carson died following the fire, which broke out in the early hours of 2 September.
The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service received a call at 00:58 in the morning to attend the scene at Thorndale Park.
The fire then spread to an oil tank and ruptured, causing a nearby detached bungalow on the Hillsborough Road to catch fire. Firefighters rescued Mr Carson from the property and carried out CPR alongside Ambulance Personnel, but he died at the scene.

The Chief Fire Officer for Northern Ireland, Peter Craig, has announced that he is to retire after over 35 years of distinguished Service. Peter Craig is one of the longest serving officers in Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service and was appointed as Chief Fire Officer in February 2011, having been the acting Chief from July 2010.

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.
