Woman Released Over Carryduff Fire Death

A woman who was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after an elderly man died in a house fire in Carryduff, County Down, has been released.

The 57-year-old woman was detained at a police station in north Down on Wednesday.

91-year-old Samuel Carson died following the fire, which broke out in the early hours of 2 September.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service received a call at 00:58 in the morning to attend the scene at Thorndale Park.

The fire then spread to an oil tank and ruptured, causing a nearby detached bungalow on the Hillsborough Road to catch fire. Firefighters rescued Mr Carson from the property and carried out CPR alongside Ambulance Personnel, but he died at the scene.

Police said on Thursday that they are now treating the fire as suspected arson, despite initial investigations proclaiming it to be not suspicious.
