7,500 Jobs Secured At Three UK Naval Bases

The announcement of the £3.2 billion worth of contracts, which will secure 7,500 jobs at three UK naval bases, has been welcomed by union Unite.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has awarded contracts worth £3.2 billion for the maintenance of the Royal Navy's fleet over the next five years. The MoD said the deal would secure about 7,500 jobs at the bases at Devonport, Faslane and Portsmouth.

Unite national officer Ian Waddell said: "We welcome the awarding of these contracts to secure the jobs at Devonport, Faslane and Portsmouth. It’s good news for UK manufacturing, for shipbuilding and the decision is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of our members at these bases whose skills are world-class."
