Consultation Announced For Parking Schemes

A formal consultation regarding the implementation of a Residents' Parking Scheme in areas of south Belfast have commenced.

The schemes involve the Lower Malone and College Park Avenue/Rugby Road areas in the city.

A decision to develop a Residents' Parking Scheme for both areas was made following representations for local residents who spoke of the impact commuter parking is having on the community.

Transport Minister Danny Kennedy commented: "Before any Residents' Parking Scheme can progress it is vital that it has the support of the local community. Both draft schemes have been developed in conjunction with local residents' groups who have indicated significant support for the proposals.

"The communities in the Lower Malone, and College Park Avenue and Rugby Road areas were informally consulted in November 2012 and in November 2013 respectively. Residents in both areas have offered sufficient support for the schemes to allow me to proceed to the formal public consultation stage.

"Working together I am confident that we can help resolve the parking difficulties in the respective areas caused by commuter parking."

The consultation process opened today (29 October) and will run until Wednesday 19 November 2014.
