'Hoax' Security Alert In L'Derry Ends

Police have said a security alert in Maghera, Co L'Derry, has ended.

They have declared the alert a hoax.

A suspicious object was discovered in the Sunnyside Drive area of the town on Friday.

Police and army bomb experts attended the scene.

The object was later declared a hoax.

Residents who had to evacuate their homes have since been allowed to return.

In a statement, Inspector Sam Shearer from the PSNI, said: "I would appeal to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area or who has any information about this incident to contact police in Magherafelt on 101."

Security Alert Underway In Belfast
A security alert is currently underway in Belfast. It is understood there have been reports of a suspicious object found in the Tates Avenue area of the city. As a result, the road has been closed between Boucher Road roundabout and Lorne Street. Police and army bomb experts are in attendance at the scene. No other details have been released.

Police Attacked After Derry, Craigavon Call-Outs
Missiles including suspected blast bombs were thrown at police in Northern Ireland this weekend. Violence broke out in Craigavon on Friday night when officers were investigating a suspicious object at the Lismore roundabout. Police declared the security alert to be an elaborate hoax. Mayor Carla Lockhart said violence "damages the area".

Lurgan Alert Declared 'Hoax'
A security alert in Co Armagh was this afternoon branded a hoax. A police spokeswoman confirmed that a suspicious object discovered this morning was "an elaborate hoax" and the alert is now ended. Earlier, the SDLP Upper Bann MLA Dolores Kelly said schoolgirls in Lurgan reported a suspicious object to her this morning.

Police Station Alert Discovered To Be A Hoax
A security alert has ended after a suspicious object found in a car close to an east Belfast police station was declared an "elaborate hoax". Residents in the Woodstock Road area had to evacuate their homes at about 21:00 on Sunday evening, while nearby Church services were also interrupted.

Suspicious Object Found During Security Alert
A suspicious object has been found during a security alert in Dundonald on Wednesday afternoon. Residents had to be evacuated from their homes on Wanstead Road during the alert. The object has been taken for further examination. The roads in the area have been re-opened.
