Man Accused Of Critically Injuring Brother Granted Bail

A man accused of critically injuring his brother with one punch has been released on bail.

The man, named as Barry Lyttle, 33, is said to have punched his brother, 31-year-old Patrick, following a disagreement.

It is understood Barry, who is thought to be from Ballycastle, had recently travelled to Australia to visit Patrick, with their father, Oliver. The incident happened shortly after 3am on Saturday (3 January) in the Bayswater Road area of Sydney.

Police were called to the scene following reports that a man had been assaulted. It later emerged that the younger man had received a single punch to the head. He sustained critical injuries in the attack and was taken to St Vincent's Hospital for surgery.

He remains in a critical condition.

Appearing at Sydney's Central Local Court on Monday, local media reported that the accused was ordered to stay with his aunt in Blacktown and not to drink alcohol. He is also required to surrender his passport and report weekly to police.

He was granted bail by the judge, and is due to appear in court again later this month.

He has been charged with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm.
