Armagh Farmer Convicted Of Animal Cruelty
An Armagh farmer has been convicted of animal welfare charges at Armagh Magistrates' Court.
55-year-old Robert McKeown of Clovenenden Road, Loughgall, was convicted of causing unnecessary suffering to two bovine animals, two charges of failing to ensure the needs of three animals were met to the extent required by good practice and two charges of failure to provide adequate care without delay for three animals which appeared to be ill or injured, among other charges.
Mr McKeown has been disqualified from keeping bovine animals for two years. He was also given a conditional discharge for two years in respect of the other charges.
£264k Loughgiel Cycel Scheme Underway
Work on a £264,000 cycle and footway scheme on the Corkey Road, south of Loughgiel in County Antrim, has begun.
Transport Minister Danny Kennedy said: "This scheme will provide around 1km of cycle and footways. It will bring particular benefits to cyclists and pedestrian by linking the hamlets of Ben Vista and Rockend, including the local St Annes Primary School in Corkey.
"I am committed to developing a cycling culture in Northern Ireland where people will have a choice on how they travel, how they get to work, how they get to the shops and how they spend some of their leisure time. This investment will enhance that opportunity for the local community in Corkey and Loughgiel, and in the surrounding area."
The scheme is expected to be complete by mid-March 2015.
Manannán Mac Lir Statue Stolen
The statue of Manannán Mac Lir in County Londonderry has been stolen.
The sculpture was reported missing from the Gortmore viewing point at about 10:25 on Wednesday morning.
A piece by County Tyrone artist John Darren Sutton, the statue at Binevenagh Mountain depicts Manannán Mac Lir, the Celtic god of the sea, overlooking Lough Foyle.
Police have asked anyone with information to contact them on the non-emergency number 101.
Portrush B&B 'Second Best' In World
A bed and breakfast in Portrush, County Antrim, has been named the second best in the world by holiday review website TripAdvisor.
Shola Coach House is run by husband and wife Sharon and David Schindler and currently has an 'Excellent' rating on the popular travel site.
The Portrush B&B was pipped to the post by Millgate Bed & Breakfast in Masham, North Yorkshire, but managed to finish ahead of Huis Koning in Belgium, B&B Modello Resort in Palermo, Italy and the Welsh Hills Inn in Granville, Ohio.

Council Vote To Replace Stolen Statue
Limavady Borough Council have voted to replace the stolen Manannán Mac Lir sculpture. The six-foot Celtic sea god statue was stolen from Binevenagh Mountain last month, and has not been seen since, despite a police investigation and appeals for information.

Pair Cautioned As Dog Dies In Car
Two people have been cautioned for animal cruelty after a dog died while locked in a vehicle on Sunday. The puppy passed away in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh after members of the public had heroically attempted to rescue it by breaking the car window as temperatures reached the mid-twenties. Unfortunately the dog could not be saved.
