Viable Device Found In Newry Had Detonated

A device found in Newry on Thursday had exploded, according to police.

The device was discovered on the Barracric Road and a railway line between Newry and Dundalk was forced to close. It has since been re-opened.

No damage was caused and there were no reports of any injuries.

The device has been taken away by the police for further examination.

Police are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.

Man Arrested In Connection With 1992 Police Officer Murder
A 59-year-old man has been arrested at Birmingham Airport in connection with a fatal mortar attack in Newry in 1992. The man was arrested on Wednesday, 21 February by detectives from PSNI's Legacy Investigation Branch, investigating the murder of Constable Colleen McMurray and the attempted murder of her colleague in 1992.

An explosive device found during a security alert in west Belfast was "designed to kill or seriously injure police officers", according to the PSNI. The alert, which has now ended, was on the Brians Well road area in Poleglass on Saturday, 14 January.

Viable Incendiary Device Found On Police Station Grounds
A controlled explosion has been carried out on a viable incendiary device discovered on the grounds of Ballycastle Police Station, Co Antrim. A second device found has been declared a hoax. They were discovered on the Ramoan Road on Thursday morning. A number of businesses were forced to close during the alert, however they have now reopened.
