Dublin firm to reinvigorate Causeway Coast area
A Dublin-based consultancy firm has been commissioned by the Government to prepare a tourism development masterplan for the Causeway Coast and Antrim Glens area.
Tourism Development International (TDI), which will be partnered by Ferguson McIlveen and Judith Annett Countryside Consultancy, is expected to address socio-economic regeneration of the whole north-east area, with a focus on the unique tourism assets of the Causeway Coast and Antrim Coast and Glens Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Commenting on the choice, Bruce Robinson, Permanent Secretary at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment (DETI), said said: “TDI convinced us that their skills and experience meant that they would do the best job for Northern Ireland.
“The firm will be holding a series of workshops in the region at which the relevant interest groups will have an opportunity to contribute to the plan which is to be completed by Christmas."
Mr Robinson said that through the initiative the DETI intends to link together tourist facilities right across the north-east of the Province so that larger numbers of visitors are attracted to the area and stay longer.
It is hoped that this will provide a boost to the economies of local communities and will encourage the development of sustainable transport links across the north-East.

The Causeway Coast and Antrim Glens has been named one of Britain’s Top 10 Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The popular Northern Ireland tourist destination secured the accolade in the Period Living & Traditional Homes magazine’s Best of British Awards 2004-05.

Major Investment In County Antrim Rural Tourism
Tourism in County Antrim is to benefit from an investment of £1.5 million, Rural Affairs Minister Edwin Poots has announced. The Minister has cut the first sod on a project at Magheracross viewpoint. Situated on the Causeway Coast Way, a walking trail stretching from Portstewart to Ballycastle will receive £0.5million to be redeveloped.

‘Masterplan’ to help north coast tourism
Around £10 million has been spent on an initiative to promote tourism on the Causeway Coast and the Glens of Antrim. The funding is part of a £50 million 10-year 'masterplan' to promote tourism in the area. A range of new projects will receive funding including water sports and new signposts for the Antrim coast road linking Belfast to Londonderry.

Plans for the new Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) headquarters in Ballykelly have been unveiled. The artist's impression reveals the contemporary building is designed to complement the architecture of the surrounding area. The plans have now been submitted to Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council for approval.
