'Suspected Gun' Found During Strabane Security Operation

A suspected gun has been found following a security operation in Strabane, County Tyrone.

Police were carrying out searches linked to dissident republican activity in the Melvin Road and Ballycolman Estate areas on Tuesday night.

Army bomb disposal experts were also at the scene.

The security alert, carried out by PSNI detectives from the Serious Crime Branch, ended at around 2am on Wednesday.

A viable device has been found following a security alert near Strabane, County Tyrone. A device was found on Ballyheather Road on Tuesday. The road has now been re-opened between the junctions of the Lisdivin Road and Clogher Road. Police and army bomb experts attended the scene.

Police in the North West have dismantled what is believed to be one of the largest suspected cannabis operations in the region in recent years. During a planned search operation in the Strabane area on Wednesday, 2 July 2025, suspected cannabis plants with an estimated street value of £1.4 million were seized.
