Police To Lead Search For Missing Kayaker

Police are to take the lead in the search for a kayaker who went missing off the east coast of Northern Ireland.

47-year-old Robert Hanna from Carrickfergus, went out to sea at around 1.30pm on Monday and failed to return to shore at Portmuck.

A major search co-ordinated by the Belfast Coastguard was launched on Monday evening.

Superintendent Ryan Henderson, said: "Over the coming hours and days we will continue to work with search and rescue teams, concentrating on the coast line, in the hope of finding him and getting him back safely to his family."

Police have now taken the lead in the search and are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Man arrested after drugs find
Police seized a large quantity of Class A drugs, following a planned search at a premises in south Belfast yesterday. An amount of suspected Ecstasy and cocaine, with an estimated street value of £120,000, was recovered during the raid. A 47-year-old man has been arrested and charged with possession of Class A drugs, with intent to supply.

PSNI In Joint Search Operation
A joint search operation has been launched by the PSNI, South Wales Police and the UK Border Agency for a missing 34-year-old man. It is understood that the agencies are looking for Khalil Fawzy, who was allegedly last seen on Newry Road, Warrenpoint Harbour, at around 16:45 on Sunday.

Woman Arrested Over False Reports Of Baby Falling From A Ferry
A 37-year-old woman has been arrested for wasting police time after false reports a baby had fallen into the Belfast Lough. A major search operation was carried out, however it was called off in Thursday afternoon. Police said they no longer believed a baby had fallen into the water.

Funeral for dinghy tragedy teenager
A Coleraine teenager, who drowned off the coast of Castlerock, is to be buried today. Robert McMullan, 15, died when the dinghy he was in with a friend got into difficulties and capsized on Tuesday. He was airlifted to hospital, but died later. His friend managed to swim to shore and raised the alarm.
