Police Launch Murder Investigation Following Death Of Eugene Carr

A murder investigation has been launched after the death of a man who was attacked in Co Armagh.

Eugene Carr, 73, was assaulted at his home in Clogharevan Park in Bessbrook on Monday 31 August.

Mr Carr, who was disabled, was being treated at the Royal Victoria Hospital, however he died shortly before 8pm on Tuesday.

Senior Investigating Officer Chief Inspector Lee McNevison said: "A post mortem will be carried out in due course however we believe at this stage that he died from the injuries he received following the violent aggravated burglary."

Newry, Mourne and Down District Commander, Superintendent Simon Walls said: "We would like to extend our sympathy to the Carr family and thank the wider community for their support during our investigation to date. Enquiries are very much ongoing and we are asking witnesses or anyone who believes they can assist in the investigation in any way to contact detectives at Ardmore on the non-emergency number 101."

A woman, 25, and a man, 26, who were arrested in the Newry area on 04 September were released on bail pending further enquiries.
