Almost 5,500 Applications To PSNI

A total of 5,498 applications were received during the PSNI recruitment drive from the end of September to 23 October.

In figures released by the PSNI, it was revealed that of the more than 5,000 applicants 65% were Protestant, 31.8% were Catholic – a 2% increase on 2014's recruitment period.

64% of applicants were male and 35.6% female.

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Hamilton said that he was "greatly encourage" by the number of applications received.

"Each of the applicants has now started their journey through a rigorous and challenging process, which has been developed to ensure that the very best candidates will go forward to be offered a place on the training programme," Mr Hamilton added.

Planning Applications Continue To Fall
