Laganside provide 'reel' aid to Cinemagic

Laganside Corporation have hooked a ‘reel’ treat for young people and the young at heart with the announcement that they are to sponsor the UK’s largest children’s film Festival, 'Cinemagic World Screen Festival for Young People in Association with Laganside', to run from December 4-14 2003.

Kyle Alexander, Chief Executive of Laganside Corporation, said: “As part of Laganside Corporation’s ongoing commitment to develop a thriving arts culture and further regeneration, an association has been developed with Cinemagic, an international children’s film festival.

"Regeneration is a process that depends on creativity and vision. By providing opportunities for young people to engage with the arts from an early age Cinemagic helps to inspire and motivate individuals. Enhancing and encouraging a creative thinking process in the formative years, increases the likelihood of individuals maintaining a creative approach to situations encountered in adulthood.

"Every community throughout Northern Ireland requires dynamic, forward thinking individuals to ensure ongoing development that will benefit everyone. Cinemagic plays a valuable role in engaging young people and Laganside is delighted to be part of that process.”

Joan Burney, Festival Director, added: “Cinemagic, via the medium of film and television provide educational, practical experiences for young people that expand their skill base and help prepare them for a workplace environment. Via masterclasses industry professionals across a range of disciplines such as directing, acting, producing and scriptwriting give 14 to 25- year-olds an insight into the industry and offer encouragement and practical advice on how to pursue their ambitions.

"Through the partnership we hope to assist in providing a channel for young people to explore their own potential, expand their horizons, and appreciate how creativity in its many forms can benefit local communities.”

Cinemagic is to feature over 70 international film screenings, director’s discussions, workshops, masterclasses, a dedicated career’s forum and special Cinemagic juries for 8-12 year olds and 13 -18 year olds.
