Residents Evacuated During Security Alert In Co Antrim

A number of residents were evacuated from their homes after a pipe bomb was discovered in Co Antrim.

Police launched a security alert after the viable object was found in Hollybrook Crescent in Newtownabbey on Monday, 14 December.

Sinn Féin Councillor Michael Goodman said: "Again we have seen families forced from their homes on a cold winter night in the mouth of Christmas by a bunch of people who have been rejected by this community.

"The people behind these actions need to wise up and stop the disruption of children, the elderly and infirm.

"The anger from local residents to this action is palpable and the people behind this attack need to listen to them."

Residents have returned to their homes and the device has been taken for further examination.
