Two Grammar Schools In Omagh To End Academic Selection

Two grammar schools in Omagh have announced plans to end academic selection.

Omagh CBS and Loretto Grammar School will end the selection next year.

Sinn Féin MLA Chris Hazzard has welcomed news.

He said: "Both schools have proposed to end controversial entrance exams for year 8 pupils from September 2017.

"These schools are the latest in an increasing number of schools who are choosing to abandon this unfair system.

"Everyone interested in the delivery of high-quality education for everyone, as well as equality and social justice, to follow the example of these schools and reject academic selection once and for all."
