Woman Arrested Over Prison Officer Attack Released

A 35-year-old woman arrested in connection with the attempted murder of a prison officer has been released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service (PPS).

A bomb went off under the van of a prison officer in east Belfast last Friday, 04 March. He is believed to be in a stable condition.

A group calling itself the IRA claimed responsibility for the attack.

Police have been granted more time to question three men aged 34, 39 and 45 who were arrested last Sunday, 06 March.

Man Arrested After Andersonstown Road Crash
The PSNI have arrested a man in his 40s after a single vehicle crash in west Belfast. The collision happened on the Andersonstown Road at around 9.40pm on Thursday evening, 18 January. Police said the man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs and was subsequently released on bail.

Prison Officer Released On Bail Over Drugs Offences
A prison officer has been released on bail after being arrested over drugs offences. The woman, reported to be 50-years-old, was arrested on suspicion of possessing and supplying Class A and B drugs at Maghaberry Prison. According to reports, it is understood she was detained on Monday, and released pending further enquiries.

Over 5,000 people have applied for 200 custody officer jobs in Northern Ireland’s Prison Service- none of the applicants are the prison officers who are taking early retirement. This news follows pleas to the Justice Minister David Ford for a guarantee that retiring prison officers would not be eligible to apply for the new jobs.
