Number Of Schools Across NI Receive 'Malicious Communications' - PSNI

The PSNI have confirmed a number of schools across Northern Ireland have received "malicious communications".

The news comes following reports pupils and staff have been evacuated from Bloomfield Primary School in Bangor.

Police said there is no information to suggest the incidents are "terrorist-related" however investigations are ongoing.

The PSNI are continuing to work with police services in the UK to investigate if the incidents are linked.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

SDLP Justice Spokesperson Alex Attwood MLA said: "Today has seen children across Northern Ireland and Britain evacuated from their classrooms. It is a development that will shock many and must be condemned by everyone.

"I commend the actions of staff who acted quickly and professionally as the situation unfolded. As details continue to emerge we must remember this disturbance comes at a time when pupils across these islands prepare for their exams. To threaten children and staff in this way is utterly reprehensible.

"Any and all threats must be taken seriously and the PSNI will work with their colleagues in the South and in Britain as they pursue those responsible."

Alliance MLA Chris Lyttle said: "It is incomprehensible how anyone could conspire to disrupt and intimidate young children at school.

"I want to commend the actions of staff who acted with professionalism and courage to ensure the young pupils were moved to safety immediately. Their calm response ensured those behind these incidents have achieved nothing and will not succeed."
