Viable Explosive Device Found During Searches In Co L'Derry

A viable explosive device has been found after police carried out several searches in Co L'Derry.

The searches, in the Creggan area on Friday night and Saturday morning, 08 and 09 July, were carried out as part of an investigation involving violent dissident republican activity.

A 48-year-old man was arrested following the search of a house, however he has been released unconditionally.

The device and various other component parts recovered have been taken away for further examination.

Detective Inspector Adrian Brown said: "I would appeal to anyone with any information that could assist us in combating violent dissident republican activity to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
