Prison officers begin overtime ban
Staff at two of Northern Ireland's most notorious prisons have begun an overtime ban because of a lack of security measures following recent attacks on workers homes.
Prison officers at Maghaberry and Magilligan prisons have accused the government of not giving them enough protection following attacks by loyalists paramilitaries campaigning for segregation from republicans.
Prison Officers' Association chairman Finlay Spratt said that prison officers had been treated as second-class citizens for the past 35 years.
However, Peter Russell, Director General of the Northern Ireland Prison Service, said that, while no-one underestimated the difficult task faced by prison officers, a ban on overtime could make the present situation worse.
The most recent attacks on prison officers saw the homes of two officers targeted in separate incidents in Co Antrim.
Last week, the home of a prison officer was damaged while his car was also set on fire in Carnmoney.
In nearby Ballyduff, a house which used to belong to a prison officer was attacked with petrol bombs.

Homes And Businesses To Receive Rates Bills From 05 April
The Department of Finance (DoF) has announced that homes and businesses will begin receiving their rates bills from Friday, 05 April. The bill will set out the amount due for 2024/25, details of any rate relief which has been applied to your account and also any arrears from previous years that have not been paid.
