Scottish airline acquires 5 Scottish and 2 NI routes from BA
Glasgow-based airline Loganair has bought seven Scottish routes from British Airways which include two Belfast bound flights.
The agreement means that Loganair will now operate all of the internal Scottish routes currently served by BA CitiExpress.
Loganair, which currently operates on 33 routes with a fleet of 15 aircraft, operates a franchise partnership with British Airways. That agreement was renewed for a five-year period earlier this year. Today’s agreement also extends the Scottish external network, which already includes Derry, Cork and Manchester, to include Belfast and the Isle of Man.
The seven routes acquired today from BA CitiExpress are Glasgow - Stornoway; Glasgow - Benbecula; Glasgow - Belfast; Glasgow - Isle of Man; Glasgow - Aberdeen; Aberdeen - Shetland and Edinburgh – Belfast.
Loganair will take over the new routes from March 1 next year. The Scottish operator is projecting that the addition of the new routes will boost its current passenger figures from 315,000 to 585,000 and that turnover will increase from the present £30m to some £48m.
Founded in 1962, Loganair is already the largest operator of internal Scottish flights with regular services within the mainland and to the Western and Northern Isles.

Loganair Takes Over Two Flybe Routes
Scottish airline Loganair is to take over two former Flybe routes from Belfast City Airport. The flights to Aberdeen and Inverness will commence later this month and run on a daily basis, the airport has announced. Flybe entered administration early this morning, 05 March, with all flights cancelled across the UK.
