Belfast City Council Appoints New Chairpersons

Belfast City Council has appointed new chairpersons for its six main committees.

Councillor Deirdre Hargey has been appointed Chairperson of the Strategic Policy and Resources Committee, with Councillor Aileen Graham appointed Deputy Chairperson.

Councillor Mairead O'Donnell has been appointed Chairperson of the City Growth and Regeneration Committee, with Councillor Jeffrey Dudgeon appointed Deputy Chairperson.

Alderman Tommy Sandford has been appointed Chairperson of the People and Communities Committee, with Councillor Matt Garrett appointed Deputy Chairperson.

Councillor Donal Lyons has been appointed Chairperson of the Planning Committee, with Councillor Emmet McDonough-Brown appointed Deputy Chairperson.

Alderman Guy Spence has been appointed Chairperson of the Licensing Committee, with Councillor Arder Carson appointed Deputy Chairperson.

Councillor Seanna Walsh has been appointed Chairperson of the Belfast Waterfront and Ulster Hall Shareholders' Committee, with Councillor Peter Johnston appointed Deputy Chairperson.

Plans for an £8 million cinema development in Newtownabbey have been given the green light. Hammerson Ltd was granted planning permission by Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council for the major work which will provide over 70 full time jobs.
