Woman Dies In House Fire In Co Down

A woman has died in a house fire in Co Down.

Emergency services were called to the blaze at a house in The Green in Holywood just before 12.15pm on Wednesday, 27 September.

The woman, aged in her 50s, was discovered dead at the scene.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

North Down DUP MLA Gordon Dunne said: "There is a real sense of shock within the local community at the sudden death of this lady and I would like to pass on my thoughts and prayers to the family at this sad and tragic time.

"The close knit community within the Redburn and Loughview area will certainly rally around and support the family circle at this difficult time.

"I would like to express our thanks to all the emergency services including the Fire and Rescue Service, Air Ambulance Service and PSNI for their rapid response in attending to the scene of the tragic incident; but sadly they were unable to save the life of this lady."

Elderly Woman Dies In North Belfast House Fire
An elderly woman has died in a house fire in north Belfast. The woman, believed to be in her late 80s, had lived in Rosepenna Parade. Neighbours attempted to break into the house but were not able to help the woman. Emergency services attended the scene and controlled the blaze.

Pensioner Dies After Being Injured In House Fire
A 93-year-old man who was injured in a house fire in Co Armagh on Sunday has died. The blaze happened in a bungalow in the Richmond Heights area, Richhill, at approximately 10.30pm. The victim and his 86-year-old wife were rescued from the fire by the emergency services, however the man died from his injuries at Craigavon Area Hospital on Tuesday.

Fatal House Fire In Newtownards
A woman in her 30s has died in a fire at a house in Newtownards, Co. Down. The fire occurred at a house in Ilex Avenue at around 5.30pm and the woman is reported to have died at the scene. An investigation into the circumstances of the death is being conducted by police who have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Man hit by Dublin-bound express train
The man who died after being hit by a train on the outskirts of Belfast on Monday has been named by police. He was Pearse White, 31, from Areema Drive in Dumurry. Mr White died after being struck at a railway crossing in Dunmurry on Monday April 1. The incident happened at 6.

Deadly Shed Fire 'Not Suspicious'
A man in his 60s has died in a house fire in Co Fermanagh. Enquiries are ongoing into the cause of the fire but it is understood that it is not being treated as suspicious. The victim's two pet dogs have also perished in the blaze that started in a shed close to the house on the Snowhill Road in Lisballaw.

Woman Dies In House Fire In L'Derry
A woman has died in a house fire in Co L'Derry. The blaze was reported at a property in the Grange Park area of Limavady at around 6.25am on Monday, 17 July. Emergency services attended however the woman, aged in her 50s, was found dead at the scene. An investigation has been launched.

East Belfast Blaze Kills Woman
There has been a tragic fire in east Belfast with a 55-year-old woman killed in a domestic house blaze. It was at a house on Castlereagh Place off the Woodstock Road on Saturday night with a neighbour noticing smoke coming from the house and then alerting the Fire Service.

NI's Chief Fire Officer Announces His Retirement
The Chief Fire Officer for Northern Ireland, Peter Craig, has announced that he is to retire after over 35 years of distinguished Service. Peter Craig is one of the longest serving officers in Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service and was appointed as Chief Fire Officer in February 2011, having been the acting Chief from July 2010.

An English-born firefighter has been awarded €5,000 in compensation for discrimination by Limerick City Council. An Equality Tribunal heard Martin Mannering, now living in Cappamore, Co Limerick was left a note to leave his job because he was no longer "in Middlesbrough".

High Drama On Belfast's Big Wheel
A man has been arrested after he climbed up the 60 metres high Belfast Wheel and balanced on top, halting the wheel and trapping passengers for a time. The 38-year-old, who was stripped off to nothing but shorts, scaled to the top of the wheel on Monday evening.
