Woman Dies In House Fire In Co Down

A woman has died in a house fire in Co Down.

Emergency services were called to the blaze at a house in The Green in Holywood just before 12.15pm on Wednesday, 27 September.

The woman, aged in her 50s, was discovered dead at the scene.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

North Down DUP MLA Gordon Dunne said: "There is a real sense of shock within the local community at the sudden death of this lady and I would like to pass on my thoughts and prayers to the family at this sad and tragic time.

"The close knit community within the Redburn and Loughview area will certainly rally around and support the family circle at this difficult time.

"I would like to express our thanks to all the emergency services including the Fire and Rescue Service, Air Ambulance Service and PSNI for their rapid response in attending to the scene of the tragic incident; but sadly they were unable to save the life of this lady."

Five Arrested And Alcohol Seized In Holylands Disturbances
Additional police resources are to be deployed in the Holyland's area of south Belfast following two nights of disturbances. Police have arrested five people and seized more than 2,500 bottles and cans of alcohol as large crowds of young people gathered in the streets on Sunday and Monday nights.
