Council To Launch Investigation Over Jayda Fransen Video
Belfast City Council is to launch an investigation after a video appeared with Britain First deputy leader Jayda Fransen wearing council robes in the Lord Mayor's chair.
The video was posted online and shows her in a robe in the chamber of Belfast City Council at the City Hall.
It is understood the visit was facilitated by Councillor Jolene Bunting.
SDLP Councillor Paul McCusker described the video as "outrageous".
He said: "It is irresponsible and disrespectful for anybody to facilitate the gross abuse of City Hall in this way.
"Belfast is a diverse and welcoming city, these extremists should be given no platform to spread their hate here.
"Councillor Bunting should be questioned and disciplined for this and I would ask for an investigation as this behaviour is totally unacceptable by these individuals."
Alliance Councillor Sian O'Neill said: "This video disrespects an office which all parties on the Council have sought to undertake in as inclusive a manner as possible. It is an abuse by Councillor Bunting of her privilege to access the robes, the chamber and the Lord Mayor's chair to create a false perception of a link between the Council and Britain First, and Alliance has contacted the Chief Executive to investigate it.
"Normally when Councillors bring visitors on a tour of City Hall, it is a positive experience designed to make people feel more included in the workings of the city and proud of it. This behaviour is in direct contrast to that, being deliberately designed to alienate large sections of our community and create division. Councillor Bunting is doing nothing but bringing shame on herself and the Council."

A murder investigation was launched after a man was found seriously injured and unconscious in the Cupar Street area of the city on Wednesday evening, 6 March. The man passed away in hospital later that same night.

A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man found in west Belfast. On Wednesday, 06 March, a man was found with serious injuries in the Cupar Street area just before 8pm. The man was treated at the scene by emergency services before being transferred to hospital. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

New Black Taxi Jobs Announced
Funding to create 26 new Black Taxi driver jobs has been announced by Sinn Féin Councillor Ciaran Beattie. Cllr Beattie posted the news to his Facebook, and it is understood that the funding has been secured through Belfast City Council. A jobs fair for hopeful drivers will be held at Cultúrlann on 01 February.

Homeless Woman Dies In Belfast
A homeless woman has died on the streets of Belfast. The woman is believed to have been aged in the 30s and her death is not being treated as suspicious. A post mortem is to be carried out to determine the cause of death. The woman is the fifth person to die on the city's streets in recent weeks.

The Ministry of Defence has asked Belfast City Council to fly a flag for a full week to mark Armed Forces Day. But the letter has arrived too late to be discussed by the full council and in the past, there has been no consensus between political parties on whether or not to fly it. Armed Forces Day, now in its fourth year, is on Saturday June 30.
