Woman Stabbed In Newtownards

A man has been arrested after a 19-year-old woman was stabbed in co Down.

The attack happened at a property in the Thomas Street area at around 12.45pm on Saturday, 20 January.

The victim sustained stab wounds to her arm, neck and body and is in a critical condition in hospital.

The suspect has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Detective Sergeant Joy Fitzgerald said: "I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have information which could help with our investigation, to contact detectives at the Public Protection Unit in Newtownards on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 541 of 20/01/18."

Pensioners Flee Bangor Arson Attack
Police in North Down are appealing for information following a suspicious fire at a community hall in the Skipperstone Road area of Bangor on Thursday. At around 9.00pm, petrol was poured over the door of the centre and set alight. A number of pensioners were in the community centre at the time.

Five to appear in court in connecton with Bangor robbery
Five youths are to appear in Downpatrick Magistrates Court today charged in connection with the robbery of an off-licence in Bangor on Tuesday night. Two youths, who entered the premises on the Rathgael Road, assaulted two female members of staff before making off with a sum of money and alcohol.

Police renew murder appeal
Police have renewed their appeal into the murder of a man in Co Down last month. Andrew Cully, a father of two teenage boys from Greyabbey, was shot up to 10 times as he sat in his parked car in the loyalist West Winds estate in Newtownards on 24 March. Detectives want to speak to anyone who saw Mr Cully sitting in his car prior to the shooting.

Police have discovered an underground cannabis factory with a total of 120 plants near Maghera, L'Derry. The discovery was made after police searched premises at Moneysharvin Road on Tuesday. The plants have an estimated street value of £60,000.

Third Man Arrested Over Gerard 'Jock' Davison Murder Released
A third man arrested by police investigating the murder of Gerard 'Jock' Davison has been released. Mr Davison, 47, a former IRA Commander, was shot several times in the Markets area of Belfast on Tuesday morning. Three men arrested over the killing have been released unconditionally. Police do not believe the murder was sectarian.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested by police investigating the murder of Gerard 'Jock' Davison. The former IRA commander was shot several times in the Markets area on Tuesday morning. A 41-year-old man arrested on Wednesday has been released unconditionally.

Women Rescued In PSNI Human Trafficking Sting
Three women in their twenties who are thought to be victims of human trafficking have been taken to safety following a police investigation in Bangor, County Down. Detectives in Bangor have arrested two men, aged 38 and 25, on suspicion of offences linked to suspected people trafficking and prostitution.

Man remanded in custody charged with murder
A man has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of a woman in north Belfast at the weekend. Nelson Watson, 59, from Clanmorris Street in the Tiger's Bay area of the city, is accused of the murder of 42-year-old Barbara Taggart, who is understood to have died after a fire in his flat, on Saturday night.

Man Arrested Over Murder Of Daniel Murray
A 38-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Daniel Murray. Mr Murray, a delivery driver, aged 55, was shot in his car in the Lady Street area of west Belfast on Monday, 09 May. The suspect was arrested by police in west Belfast on Wednesday, 11 May. He is currently in custody at Musgrave Police Station.

Man Arrested In Connection With Explosion At Palace Barracks
A 60-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an explosion at Palace Barracks in Holywood, Co Down, last year. The incident happened in a postal vehicle inside the military complex on 14 August 2015. No-one was injured however a number of vehicles were damaged.

Three men have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a shop in south Belfast. The incident occurred at a convenience store on the Lisburn Road just after 7am on Tuesday. The robbers held staff at knifepoint and made off on foot with a sum of cash.

A 39-year-old man has been arrested in L'Derry in connection with a murder in Glasgow over 21 years ago. Derek Sheerin, 24, was found dead yards from Celtic Park in the east end of Glasgow in September 1994. The man has been taken to Glasgow for questioning.
