Two Men Arrested In Connection With Detective Murder Attempt

Detectives from the PSNI's Major Investigation Team have made two arrests in connection with the attempted murder of Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell in Omagh in February 2023.

Two men, one aged 45 arrested in the Stewartstown area and a man aged 25 arrested in west Belfast, were detained under the Terrorism Act earlier today, Monday, 11 August. They have been taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite for questioning.

As part of the investigation, a property in west Belfast was searched and a vehicle was seized.

The senior detective was off duty when he was shot several times at a sports complex after coaching a youth football team in Omagh, County Tyrone.

Two Men Arrested On Suspicion Of Kidnapping
Police have arrested two men on suspicion of kidnapping. The males, aged 33 and 31, were detained in Co L'Derry. It is believed there arrests are in connection with an incident in the city on Thursday, 26 October. No further details have been released.

Four Men Arrested Over Explosive Device In West Belfast Released
Four men arrested in connection with an explosive device in west Belfast last year have been released from custody. The device was found in the Pantridge Road area on 30 October. Three men arrested under the Terrorism Act have been released unconditionally.

Two Men Arrested Over George Gilmore Murder Released
Two men have been arrested in connection with the murder of George Gilmore have been released unconditionally. Mr Gilmore, aged 44, was shot in the neck in Carrickfergus on Monday, 13 March. He died from his injuries in hospital the following day, 14 March. The two suspects were detained in Co Antrim on Wednesday, 29 March.

Two Men Arrested Over Bomb Found In West Belfast Released
Two men arrested in connection with a bomb found during a security alert in west Belfast have been released unconditionally. A viable bomb was discovered on the Brian's Well Road in Poleglass on Sunday, 15 January. Police said the device was designed to "kill or seriously" injure officers serving in the local community.
