Man Fined £1,000 For Transport Offences

A county goods vehicle operator has been fined £1,000 for a number of transport related offences in Ballymena.

William Farquhar, 53, of Liminary Road, Kells, was convicted after an articulated goods vehicle being driven by himself was stopped by Driver & Vehicle Agency (DVA) Enforcement officers on the A1 Hillsborough road in August last year.

He was directed to the DVA weighbridge at Sprucefield for the purposes of weighing and examination. Further checks established that Mr Farquhar did not fold a Goods Vehicle Operator's Licence, the trailer had three defective tyres and had no goods vehicle certificate in force.

Mr Farquhar was fined £200 at Lisburn Magistrates' Court for each of the five offences and four penalty points were imposed on his driving licence. He was also ordered to pay an offender levy of £15.

Light Aircraft Crashes Near Nutts Corner In Co Antrim

Police and emergency services are attending the scene of a light aircraft crash in Crumlin, Co Antrim.

It is understood the aircraft came down in the vicinity of Nutts Corner two to three miles from Belfast Airport at around 12.10pm today, 19 April.

On twitter, Belfast Airport said it was "operating as normal" following the incident, adding the aircraft "was not operating into or out of the airport".

Work Continues On £350,000 Lisnaskea Flood Scheme

Work is continuing on a £350,000 flood alleviation scheme in Lisnaskea, Co Fermanagh.

The project in the Acres area is entering into its final phase, which includes 80 metres of new pipeline with associated inlet and outlet structures, as well as the replacement of the road culvert.

Overall, the scheme will reduce the risk of flooding to dwellings in the Acres area of Lisnaskea that flooded during the December 2015 floods.

Works are scheduled to be complete by the end of summer 2018.
