Four arrested following security operation in north Belfast

Four people have been arrested, following a security operation in North Belfast last night.

A firearm and a quantity of ammunition were discovered, when police stopped a car on the Antrim Road at about 7.40pm on Wednesday, January 21. Two men taken from the vehicle were arrested and placed in forensic overalls.

Army technical officers were also called to the scene, which was subsequently sealed off for several hours as forensic officers searched a car.

Police also conducted a search at high-rise flats in the nearby New Lodge area and Army technical officers were called on to attend the scene.

A police spokesperson said that firearms, a quantity of ammunition and some other items were removed from the scene and two women were arrested.

Man questioned following arms find in Coalisland
A 42-year-old man has been taken in for questioning following a series of searches in Coalisland in County Tyrone which uncovered firearms and a sum of money. The cache is thought to be connected to dissident republican activity.

Appeal Following Serious Assault And Robbery In Antrim
PSNI detectives have issued an appeal for information and witnesses after a man was assaulted and robbed in Antrim during the early hours of Monday, 18 March. The 26-year-old was walking in an alleyway adjacent to Seacash Drive at around 3.50am when he was approached by two men.

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.
