Met Office Issues Yellow Weather Warning For NI

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind covering Northern Ireland to take affect on Friday, 12 October.

A spell of windy weather is expected which may have the potential to cause some disruption.

The warning is in place from 3am on until midnight.

Possible disruption may include:

• A small chance of injuries and danger to life with the potential for large waves and beach material to be thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads or properties.

• Possible closure of some roads and bridges.

• A slight chance of damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs.

• Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible.

• Chance of power cuts, with the potential to affect other services such as mobile phone coverage.

Warning For Thunderstorms Issued In NI
A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms has been issued in some parts of Northern Ireland. The Met Office has put the warning in place from 10pm on Friday, 01 June, and a second warning has been issued for Saturday, 02 June. Heavy rain, downpours of hail and thunder and lighting is expected, according to forecasters.

NIFRS Issues Warning About Dangers Of Wild Fires
The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has warned about the extreme dangers and serious consequences of deliberate fire setting in the countryside. The warning has been issued after a major gorse fire broke out on Black Mountain in Belfast on Monday, 28 May. NIFRS responded to reports of a large fire at about 7pm last night.

Police in north Belfast have urged the public to be cautious following reports of an alleged device being left in the area. Extensive searches have been carried in the North Queen Street area, however it is understood that nothing has yet been found.

Met Office Issues Yellow Weather Warning For Rain
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain across Northern Ireland and Scotland on Saturday, 09 June. Slow-moving heavy thunderstorms are expected to develop on Saturday afternoon between 12am – 9pm, with potentially up to 20mm of rain to fall in less than an hour and 30 – 50mm possible in three hours.

Significant Amount Of Drugs Seized In Mid Ulster
A significant amount of Class A drugs have been seized in Mid Ulster. The seizure was made following the death of a man in his thirties in the Moneymore area on Sunday, 27 May. Police recovered the drugs, believed to be cocaine, during searches at a number of properties in the area.

NIFRS Tackle Wild Fires Set On Lagmore Glen
Fire crews were dispatched on Tuesday night to deal with wildfires in the Lagmore Glen area of west Belfast. The latest incidents come after the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) issued a warning about the dangers of wildfires. Fire crews responded to reports of fires on Lagmore Glen and spent a number of hours battling the fires.

A yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been issued across Northern Ireland. The warning has been issued from 10pm on Thursday, 08 February, until noon on Friday, 09 February. Heavy snow showers are expected following rain and sleet showers. Public transport may be affected and motorists are being urged to take care.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Snow is likely to be confined to hills above 100 metres over Northern Ireland, but to low levels elsewhere.

Police have issued a warning to the public after a man was scammed out of £28,000 in Co Down. The victim received a telephone call from an individual claiming to be from British Telecom (BT). The scammer said that he had a refund to process for him.

A yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been issued across Northern Ireland. The warning is in place from 3am to 6pm on Wednesday, 31 January. Temperatures are expected to drop rapidly overnight and frequent showers of rain, sleet, snow and hail will then also develop.

PSNI Issue Warning To Students After 'Partying' In The Holylands Area
The PSNI have issued a warning to students after a group of 50 to 100 adults were partying in the street in the Holylands area of south Belfast at around 3am on Tuesday, 30 January. The students also lit a fire and were playing very loud music.

Warning Issued After Jewellery Stolen In Antrim Burglary
The PSNI have issued a warning to jewellers and antique dealers to be on the lookout for a stolen gold watch with the inscription: "Honorary Consul to North Africa". Police made the call after thieves stole cash, expensive watches and antiques from a house in Glenavy. A store nearby was also broken into and horse riding equipment was taken.
